If this list has taught me anything, it's that I don't have a feckin' clue what I'm doing! 😉 There were some posts I published last year that I was sure were going to be popular, and yet they're nowhere to be seen. Still, there's plenty on this list I'm proud of and, with over 60 posts on the site last year, it's just a fact that loads have to be left out. So these are HowToGYST's top 10 posts of 2017 (according to total page views)

#10. May 2017 Wrap Up
I'm not 100% sure why this one was so popular. Perhaps it's because I spoke at BloggerConf that month so would have gained a lot of new readers as a result. Or maybe it's because it's the one where I announced we'd be moving to the States.
Still, it's a weird one to kick off the top 10 with. I mean, I don't want to toot my own horn or anything, but I think I had better posts up than this bad boy. (In fact, I don't really consider my monthly wrap-ups to be proper posts at all, so I did consider leaving this one out.) Still, the stats, like Shakira's hips, don't lie.
P.S. I spent a while trying to figure out why this image was uploading all blurry... until I remembered I went through a phase of purposely blurring the background pictures as a sort of design style. It didn't last long.
How To Easily Turn Your Home Into A Haven
Life gets stressful, and you need somewhere you can feel fully relaxed — a shelter from the storms of work and the outside world. That’s what your home is supposed to be but, often, you walk through your door and are confronted by even more work. Piles of laundry, a sink full of dirty dishes, toys strewn around the room… Ugh.
One of my resolutions for 2017 was to turn my home into a haven. After a while, I realised I'd been mentioning it a lot but hadn't really defined what it meant to me or how you could achieve it too. So I sat down and distilled my thoughts on the subject into a blog post (as is my... job).
#8. Decluttering Questions To Make You Clear The Clutter Right Now
Sometimes it feels that things have got so out of hand that there’s nothing for it but to burn down the house and start again from scratch. (Anyone else ever felt like this?) Decluttering can be difficult, particularly when you don’t even know where to start.
Now, we all know I'm a big fan of the KonMari Method but, for a lot of people, "Does it spark joy" just doesn't cut it. So I compiled a list of decluttering questions that could help even the most overwhelmed person part with some of their stuff. (It also comes with a free checklist for reference.)
#7. How To Live A Full Life On An Empty Wallet
This one was prompted by our (at the time) upcoming move. I knew our bank balance was going to take a serious hit and that we wouldn't exactly be in a position to splash the cash afterwards. Nonetheless, I still wanted to live a full life.
I'm not one to believe the saying that money doesn't buy you happiness (after all, it buys me stationery), but you can definitely live a rich life on a tight budget. I shared various different ways to do it in this post.
#6. 9 Things To Do Before The New Year
This is another one I'm surprised to see on the list, purely because it was the last one of the year. It racked up more page views in the last fortnight of 2017 than most of my other posts did for the entire year. Believe it or not, I'm already working on an updated version for next year!
But don't let the title fool you – these are great things to do at any time of year. So if you're looking for a little task to complete that will make a big difference in your life – a quick win, if you will – then check it out.
#5. My Experience Of The No 'Poo Method
In 2017, I tried the “No ‘Poo Method” (otherwise known as the “No Shampoo Method”). In fact, today marks the one-year anniversary of the last day I used shampoo (unless you include an unfortunate need for a head lice treatment later in the year).
I wanted to share my experience (the good and the greasy), as well as some advice I have for those considering it, and what to expect. I even included (embarrassing) pictures!
A lot of people have asked for an update to this post but the truth is, I have none. Things haven't changed, hair-wise, for me. It's still a little greasy (and a lot "waxy") and I still suffer from dandruff. This year, I think I'll be looking for some natural ways to moisturise (or, at least, de-flake) my scalp. If you have suggestions, please do drop them in the comments.
#4. Swedish Death Cleaning
Move over KonMari Method, there’s a new decluttering craze in town!
This is another one I had no idea would be so popular. I had a different post planned for that day but ended up publishing this one instead because it was a bit "trendy" at the time. And it performed so well that I recorded a video on the topic too. (That video appears in my top 10 videos for the year, if you want to check that out.)
The book has just this week been officially released in the States. I already have my hands on it and am working on a review. Watch this space!
#3. Declutter 100 Items From Your Home In Your Lunch Hour
If you’ve been chipping away at your clutter forever and you're starting to feel seriously demotivated, this is the post for you. It'll help you see big results in as little as an hour.
I did suspect this one would sneak in here alright, judging by the huge reaction to it at the time. I'm so delighted it helped so many of you make a massive difference in your homes.
#2. Review of "Get Your Sh*t Together" by Sarah Knight
This was the first book I read in 2017 (did you catch my list of everything I read?) and, I have to say, a great way to kick off the year. (I ended it by finishing her third book, "You Do You" so, overall, 2017 was a bit of a Sarah Knight sandwich. That's no bad thing.)
I'm indebted to Sarah for going on to share some life advice with you over on YouTube, as well as answering your questions here on the site. She's a sport, and I couldn't be happier for her that this sequel to her smashing "The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck" also became a bestseller. Truly deserved.
And the top spot goes to...
#1. KonMari Kons: The Downsides To The KonMari Method
In my experience, there are at least two major downsides to the KonMari Method, both of which will have a negative impact on your life and your enjoyment thereof. If you’re doing the Method or considering doing the Method, I think you should know them. But don't let these put you off; believe me when I say the benefits far, far outweigh the negatives.
Still, it's best to be balanced. 😉
So, did you read all of them? Which was your favourite?
It seems to me that the topic of keeping your home in order (particularly decluttering it) is something you'd like to see more of. Duly noted for 2018! Is there anything else you'd like to see? Please let me know in the comments!
(Believe it or not, I actually have my content calendar mostly filled out for 2018 already, and am currently adding stuff to January 2019, but I'd love to move things around if I thought there was a topic that mattered more to you, so don't be shy about sharing.)
In the meantime, I'm going to start working on some of the things that will be appearing in the top 10 list for next year. 😉
